On April 26th, 1986 a Nuclear Reactor in Chernobyl, Ukraine had a nuclear meltdown caused by a fire, and the resulting explosion led to radioactive fission being released into the atmosphere, creating a 20 mile perimeter of radioactive air. 30 years later, the area around the power plant is still dangerous. This can have some serious effects on the climate.
